First Blue Angels female pilot

The Blue Angels just selected the first female demonstration pilot ever. Capt. Katie Higgins would be a C-130 Fat Albert pilot from 2015 air show season.

Higgins, 29, is a third-generation military aviator. She claims Severna Park, Md., as her hometown but she grew up on naval bases from Lemoore to Yokosuka, Japan. Her father, retired Capt. William Johnson, flew A-7 and F/A-18 Hornet aircraft during his service at US NAVY.

Marine Capt. Katie Higgins, 27, of Annapolis, Maryland, is currently assigned to Marine Aerial Refueler Transport Squadron 252 (VMGR-252) at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point, North Carolina. She is a 2008 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland.
