In 1967, the Swedish Air Force formed an unofficial display team for advertising purposes, which performed at Le Bourget, France to exhibit the new Swedish-built SAAB 105 jet trainer (SK60 in Swedish nomenclature).
In 1974, the Commander in Chief of the Swedish Air Force signed a note to establish an official aerobatic display team, flying with four SAAB 105 planes. The name of the team was combination from the designation of the aircraft SK60 and "team" - “Team 60”. The team was part of the Air Force’s Central Flying School at Ljungbyhed Air Base in southern Sweden.
The following year, another two aircraft were added to “Team 60”. The first public display of this new Swedish team was in May 1976 at Gothenburg.
Originally the team's aircraft were painted in standard camouflage scheme and were equipped with white smoke generators. Later, the paint scheme was changed and the bottom surface of the fuselage and wings were painted in national yellow and blue colors and two smoke pods were fitted to the wings.
“Team 60” subsequently flew many displays but only in Europe.
The team has been temporary disbanded since the 2008 season due to Swedish Air Force financial difficulties.
