In 1958, the Portuguese Air Force aerobatic team “Dragoes” were replaced by new team, the “Sao Jorge” (Saint George). Based at the B.A.2 Air Base in Ota, just like the legend about St. George, who killed the Dragon, this team resulted in the demise of the “Dragoes” display team.

The new team once again flew four F-84G Thunderjets fighters. Originally the team's planes were simply painted with green and red accents on the nose, but later they were painted in overall black on the upper surfaces and red on the bottom surfaces.

The “Sao Jorge” aerobatic display team was finally disbanded in 1961.
